University of Brighton trip

On Monday 2nd March 15 students along with Miss Howe and Mrs Fitzgerald were lucky enough to visit The University of Brighton for a day of Sports Science testing.

Within our Academy lessons students have been learning all about the benefits of exercise and fitness whilst also completing some basic fitness testing. At the University, students faced a range of very interesting and exciting fitness testing. All of which seemed a little daunting at first, but our group very quickly rose to the challenge and were more than impressive with their efforts.

We had a tour of the Sports Science laboratories, which students found extremely impressive and soon became very excited with the prospect of using some of the equipment and becoming young Sports Scientist for the day!

Students faced lung functioning tests, balance boards, aerobic capacity testing, blood pressure monitoring, wingate cycling, speed and power testing all inside the labs. Students were particularly pleased with being able to work inside the heat and cooling chambers. It is here that they studied the effects of heat on our body when we exercise. This part of the day was extremely hands on with all of our students working completely independently as young scientists within a professional lab.

Student conduct was excellent all day, and the University of Brighton have commented on the resilience and focus that all of our students had considering that this is usually a day that the University complete with GCSE students.

A well done to all of the following pupils:

Coree Barnes

Cole Reid Holden

Caspa Lorkin

Alex Muciek

Connor McCabe

Jayden Hoosang

Tyrell Davis

Rodi Deniz

CyCy Adebakin

Chantaye McKenly
