Intervention

Intervention and Support:

1. Bedrock Vocabulary: Our fantastic vocabulary learning system, provides students with online lessons to boost their word power. Students in Years 7-9 should be completing at least 2 online lessons per week, as part of their English homework. Please contact Ms. Robinson, if you have not yet received log-in details (S.Robinson@harrisinvictus.org.uk). Remember you can download Bedrock for your phones and iPads, or you can access the desktop version.
2. Spellzone: We have chosen Spellzone to unlock the mystery of English spelling. It is a programme that adapts to all abilities and is available to all students 7-13.  Spellzone is an online learning platform that can be used on any internet connected PC, laptop or mobile device. Please contact your child’s form teacher, if you have not received their log-in details by the end of September.
3. All students Year 7 through 10 sit termly New Group Reading Tests (NGRT) to measure their reading skills against the national average. Data is used to track and monitor the impact of intervention, the progress made and the need for further screening in collaboration with the SEND and EAL team.
4. Hackney Literacy: Students are screened using a battery of tests at our disposal.  Based on those scores we then assign interventions to Hackney Literacy depending on students’ area of need. Hackney Literacy is a group-based comprehension intervention using the Reciprocal Reading Strategy which ‘enables students to check that they understand the content of what they are reading, make inferences based on what they have read and improve their extended writing skills.’
5. Lexia PowerUp Literacy: We also use Lexia PowerUp Literacy for struggling readers who are at risk or several years behind their peers. Lexia PowerUp also  ‘accelerates literacy gains for students in grades 6–12 who are at risk of not meeting College- and Career-Ready Standards.’  The programme enables students to make multiple years of growth in a single academic year.
6. Sounds-Write is our quality first phonics intervention programme of choice at Harris Invictus. Its purpose is to provide us with a comprehensive system with which to teach reading, spelling and writing. The programme is acknowledged by the DFE as meeting all its criteria for an effective phonics teaching programme.
