Student Voice

Student Voice is key component of the student experience at Harris Invictus Academy Croydon. This programme is one of the many tools we use to ensure that students embody our ethos: We know. We can. We Will. Student Voice creates a direct pipeline of the thoughts and feelings of students directly to senior leadership. These can then be acted upon in order to improve the student experience at Harris Invictus Academy Croydon. In addition, the work of Student Voice gives students an insight into active citizenship. Their work in the school community can act as a model for their active citizenship in the local and global community.

Student Voice at Harris Invictus Academy has two strands:

Student Leadership Group – These students collect the ideas of the student body and present them to the Academy Leadership Group.

Student Parliament – These students work on specific projects to improve the student experience at Harris Invictus Academy Croydon.

Student Leadership Group

The structure of the Student Leadership Group can be seen below:

Student parliament

This structure facilitates a process whereby ideas can be collected from tutor groups and then analysed and presented to school leaders. When ideas are actioned, the outcomes can be presented to the school body. The result of this is that everyone is both listened to and then have the ideas and progress fed back to them, thus creating a loop in Student Voice.

Student Parliament

The Student Parliament is comprised of four groups, each with their own mission statement:

Committee

Mission Statements

UNICEF

“To work towards the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award at Harris Invictus Academy”.

Equalities

“To discourage all forms of discrimination at Harris Invictus Academy”.

Education

“To improve the quality of teaching and learning at Harris Invictus Academy”.

Environment

“To work towards Harris Invictus Academy being an environmentally sustainable school”.

All members of the Student Leadership Group will join one of the groups within the Student Parliament. However, these groups are open to all students within the Academy. As a result, the entire student body has an opportunity to have an active role Student Voice. These groups design and implement projects that work towards their mission statements. These group cultivate innovation, citizenship and pride within the school committee.

“As Head Student, I have sat alongside senior leaders and governors. We had thoughtful discussions and I felt like I was part of the team. I am really proud of what I achieved as Head Student”. Ashish Panda – Head Student 2021 - 2022
