LONDON ROAD CARNIVAL OF CULTURES, CROYDON - Sunday 22nd July 2018

Dear Students,

LONDON ROAD CARNIVAL OF CULTURES, CROYDON

The London Road Business Association is proud to invite you to the London Road Carnival of Cultures in West Croydon on Sunday 22nd July 2018 from 11am – 6pm. This free event is to celebrate what is so special about West Croydon’s unique diversity of food, religion and culture stepping forward in harmony. There will be live stage performances, children’s entertainment, a talent competition, procession and much more! The stage will be at the forecourt outside Croydon Voluntary Action, London Road, CR0 2TB. Please note there will be road closures on London Road between Montague Road and Oakfield Road between 8am to 7pm on the day of the event.

This is now an annual event that rose up as a community response to the riots in Croydon in 2011.  The theme this year is young people and all about providing an antidote to the negative stereotype portrayed of the youth in Croydon, along with the gang and knife culture that has become very prominent in the media.  This event is mainly being organised by students coming together from both Harris Invictus Academy Croydon and Harris Academy South Norwood. The students themselves have created a strapline for this year’s carnival: “CR0 – not just a postcode” again to counteract the postcode rivalries and bring all people of Croydon together. Some of the students will also be showcasing their talents and performing on stage.

As a diverse community, we are at the forefront of learning how to welcome new cultures, ideas and hopes for a better future together. We would be grateful if you could save the date in your diary.

Yours Sincerely,

Julie Agbowu, Valentine Atsu, Ganapathy Kasinathan
