Mobile Phone Guidance and Rules
At Harris Invictus, we are committed to creating a calm, focused, and supportive environment where all students can learn and thrive. For this reason, the school operates as a mobile-free environment during the school day for Years 7 to 11.
Mobile phones can be a significant distraction from learning. Notifications, messaging, and social media can interrupt lessons, reduce concentration, and make it harder for students to engage fully with challenging work. When phones are removed from the school day, classrooms become calmer and more purposeful, allowing teachers to teach without interruption and students to develop vital skills such as focus, resilience, and independent thinking.
Just as importantly, a phone free school day supports students’ wellbeing and safety. Social media use during the day can increase anxiety, lead to peer conflict, and contribute to bullying, which can quickly spill over into lessons and pastoral concerns. By creating a phone free environment, we help protect students from unnecessary social pressures, encourage positive face-to-face interactions, and establish healthy boundaries around technology use.
Our Expectations
- Mobile phones are not allowed on site from gate to gate.
- Phones must be switched off and out of sight before students enter the Academy and must not be switched on again until they have left the site.
- Staff may check at the gates to ensure phones are switched off.
Consequences
- If a phone is seen or heard, it will be confiscated immediately and held by the school for three weeks.
- If a phone is confiscated again within the same term, it will be held for six weeks.
- After the confiscation period, students may collect their phone from M007.
Sixth Form
- Sixth Form students are permitted to use mobile phones only in the Sixth Form Study Centre.
We appreciate the support of parents and carers in reinforcing these expectations. By working together, we can ensure that Harris Invictus remains a focused, safe, and positive environment for all students.
