Religious Studies

The Religious Studies curriculum at Harris Invictus Academy Croydon aims to promote tolerance and understanding through the exploration of beliefs and practices of different world views. The Religious Studies curriculum is both broad and balanced as it explores all six of the major world faiths: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism.

As students progress through the curriculum, they will also examine religious responses to global social issues. In doing this, students will be able to describe social issues; assert their opinion on these issues and compare their opinion with religious beliefs. This comparison is rooted in theological scholarship, so that students are able to understand religious responses through religious text.  In addition, students will develop critical thinking skills as they engage in philosophical debates concerning ethics and the philosophy of religion.

Critical thinking will not only support students in Religious Studies, but also support their other academic pursuits. This is especially the case in their EBACC subjects. An outstanding Religious Studies student is deeply empathetic, can apply religious texts to social issues and formulate justified opinion on both social and philosophical issues.
